Pre-Referral Assessment for Occupational Therapy Needs

Our specialized pre-referral assessment is designed to support schools and SENCOs in identifying children who may benefit from additional support, but where there is uncertainty regarding a formal NHS referral. This assessment aims to provide a comprehensive initial overview to inform next steps in supporting the child's development. Parental consent is required for this assessment, and a consent form will be provided.

Assessment Components:

• Classroom Observation: Our occupational therapist will observe the child within their usual classroom setting to assess how they navigate their environment and interact with peers.

• One-on-One Sessions: We will engage the child in an individual session to evaluate fine motor and gross motor skills.

• Teacher Discussions: We will hold discussions with teachers to gather insights into the child’s daily performance, strengths, and challenges.

• Parental Involvement: Where appropriate, we will have discussions with parents to gain a holistic understanding of the child’s needs.

Please Note:

• This assessment does not include any standardized testing.

• At the conclusion of the assessment, a summary report will be provided. This report will contain valuable advice and recommended next steps to support the child effectively.

• Further support with referrals can be provided.
